Taiwan trademark registration cost: official fees and agent fees (2026)

Last updated · By Hans Wu, TIPO-registered trademark agent (TT000588)

Quick answer: TIPO's basic official fees are NT$5,500 per class before discounts: NT$3,000 to file and NT$2,500 to register after approval. Applicants without a domicile or place of business in Taiwan also need a qualified local agent. Our basic filing and registration package for one class is US$700, official fees included, and you pay US$250 of that only if the mark is approved.

Total cost for one, two and three classes, split into TIPO official fees and agent fees.

What are TIPO's official fees?

These are the government fees for a standard trademark under TIPO's Trademark Fee Regulations (last amended 18 June 2025):

FeeAmount (NT$)When
Filing, per class3,000On filing
Classes 1–34: each good above 20 in a class200On filing
Class 35: each retail service for specific goods above 5500On filing
Electronic filing discount−300 per applicationOn filing
Further discount if every item matches TIPO's reference terms−300 per classOn filing
Accelerated examination, per class6,000On request
Registration, per class2,500Within 2 months of approval
Renewal, per class4,000Every 10 years

Classes 35 to 45 currently have no item limit apart from class 35 retail services. A draft amendment published on 4 June 2026 would add a per-item fee for long service specifications. It was still a draft at the time of writing, so keep specifications focused either way.

How much does our basic package cost?

Our fees are fixed per class and include the official filing and registration fees:

ClassesFiling stageRegistration stage (after approval)Total
1US$450US$250US$700
2US$800US$500US$1,300
3US$1,150US$750US$1,900

The package covers preparing the specification, filing, reporting TIPO's actions to you in English and, after approval, paying the registration fee and sending you the registration details. A clearance search with Chinese-character checks is US$200 for the first class. Accelerated examination is US$350 per class, official fee included.

What is not included in the basic package?

  • Clearance search. Recommended before filing; quoted per class.
  • Office action responses. US$250 for formal amendments and from US$600 for substantive arguments, quoted before work starts.
  • Long specifications. Goods above 20 per class in classes 1–34 and class 35 retail services above 5 are charged at TIPO's rate.
  • Priority claims. We quote the claim separately; the certified copy of your first application comes from the office where you filed it, and some offices charge for it.
  • Oppositions and invalidations. Official fees are NT$4,000 per class to oppose and NT$7,000 per class to invalidate, plus professional fees.
  • Bank charges. International transfers carry sending and intermediary fees. We quote in US dollars and ask the payer to cover them (OUR).

Why pay in two stages?

TIPO itself charges in two stages, and the registration fee falls due only if the mark is approved. We follow the same structure: if TIPO refuses the mark and you decide not to contest it, you never pay the registration stage.

The registration fee must be paid within two months of receiving the approval decision. If that deadline is missed unintentionally, the fee can still be paid within the next six months at double the amount, unless a third party has filed or obtained rights in the meantime (Trademark Act, Article 32). We docket the deadline from day one.

How can you keep the cost down?

  1. Search first. A refusal costs more in time and response fees than a search does.
  2. Keep specifications focused. In classes 1–34, 20 goods per class are covered by the basic fee; pick what you sell or will sell in Taiwan, using TIPO's reference terms where possible to get the extra electronic-filing discount.
  3. File within six months of your first application. A priority claim keeps your earlier date.
  4. Decide on a Chinese brand name early. Filing it at the same time as your main mark is cheaper than recovering it from someone else later.
